Howling wind and rain for county
Monday 12th January 2009, 12:01PM GMT.
Howling winds and lashing rain today replaced freezing temperatures in Shropshire with experts even predicting sunshine later this week.
The county escaped the heaviest of the country’s wet weather overnight but standing water on some of the roads still caused problems during rush hour.
A car spun out of control on the M54 westbound, near Junction 6 at the Wrekin Retail Park, causing rush-hour delays while the vehicle was recovered.

John Warner, Shropshire Star weatherman, said: “The rain hasn’t been too heavy in Shropshire but it certainly has in other areas, with three inches falling in North Wales and five inches in the Lake District.
“Up until 6am today Shawbury had only measured 2mm. The weather has now turned much milder than of late with temperatures reaching 9-10C (48-50F).”
Mr Warner said the county had hopefully seen the last of the freezing temperatures which dropped as low as -11C.
“The rain should clear later today. We could get a touch of ground frost overnight tonight but nowhere near as bad as it was last week,” he said.
“Tomorrow we will get one or two scattered showers with some sunshine tomorrow and Wednesday.”
The county is set to be hit with “very stormy weather with heavy rain” at the end of the week, he added.
