Wedding fair saved as Star steps in
Friday 9th January 2009, 9:55AM GMT.
Telford’s annual wedding exhibition is to go ahead this month, after the Shropshire Star stepped in to ensure it was saved.
The prestigious event at Telford Shopping Centre was in jeopardy after new fire safety regulations were imposed on shopping centres across Britain.
But talks between the centre and the Shropshire Star have meant that the event will now go ahead between January 26 and February 1.
The Shropshire Star will be working closely with Maureen Perks, the organiser of the exhibition for the last decade.
There will be more than 40 exhibitors at the exhibition each day for seven days, and the exhibition will be a one-stop shop of everything you could want to make sure your wedding day runs smoothly.
Michael Haines, regional sales manager for the Shropshire Star, said: “The Shropshire Star has worked with the Telford Shopping Centre over the last two weeks to save the exhibition.
Support
“We are extremely pleased that we have been able to save the show working closely with the Telford Shopping Centre.
“The exhibitors have been very understanding and have given myself and Maureen Perks their full support, which I would like to thank them for.
“Mrs Perks has worked very hard over the years to build a very well respected show, which we are proud to be a part of and look forward to a successful event.”
Mrs Perks said she was delighted that the show had been saved. She said: “I am looking forward to working with the Shropshire Star to ensure the usual high standards of the show and excellence are met.”
She said the wedding exhibition would provide the thousands of people who visit it with a large selection of wedding services of all kinds. An eight-page supplement will be published on January 24 which will have a floor plan and exhibitor list.
Chris Jones, director at Telford Shopping Centre, said: “I’m delighted we are able to once more host the wedding fair. During the past few weeks, we have worked closely with the show organisers to make this possible without compromising the safety and comfort of our customers.”
