Vale hopeful of landing Wolves defender Collins

Port Vale manager Dean Glover is making desperate attempts to bolster his depleted squad ahead of tomorrow’s clash at Macclesfield Town.

Glover has been pulling out the stops to secure the futures of loan recruits Gareth Owen, Lee Collins and Dave Brammer, at least until the end of the season.

But Vale are now in competition with Crewe and possibly others for centre-back Owen after he returned to Stockport County to sort out his future.

Glover is more confident of landing Wolves defender Collins and Millwall midfielder Brammer and deals should be thrashed out for them to feature tomorrow.

The Vale boss said: “It’s a difficult time and we are trying our utmost to get things done.

“We certainly haven’t given up hope of resurrecting the transfer of Gareth Owen, but Stockport have held things up and that could alert other interested parties.”Whoever wears the Vale shirt will have some scores to settle at Moss Rose.

Macclesfield won the reverse fixture 4-1 in September and also dumped the Valiants out of the FA Cup.
