Town team must fill Holt shooting boots

Paul SimpsonWe want goals from everywhere – that will be the message from Shrewsbury Town manager Paul Simpson as his side begin a fortnight without leading scorer Grant Holt tomorrow.

The 20-goal hitman begins a two-game suspension for the visit of Chester after accumulating 10 bookings this season.

Holt is the only Town player to have found the net in the last seven games, but Simpson insists there are goals in the team from elsewhere.

“We have got two games where everyone else needs to show they can score goals,” he said.

“We have players who can get goals, but unfortunately haven’t been getting them recently and we have to get back to it.

“We have defenders who can get goals but they haven’t looked like it recently.

“So I want everyone to start chipping in and this weekend is as good an opportunity as any because Grant Holt isn’t there.”Simpson is expecting Chester to make life difficult at the Prostar Stadium tomorrow, with Mark Wright’s side conceding just three goals in the six games before going down 3-1 at Macclesfield last week.

“They have had some good results and they have not been conceding a lot of goals,” Simpson added.

“They got a fantastic 0-0 away at Bradford and I would expect they will set up a similar sort of way and try and be hard to beat.

“We have to make sure we are brave on the ball, try and be positive and try and get players into those attacking positions.”

Town’s numbers have dropped slightly this week with the departure of loan rangers Joss Labadie and Jamie White back to West Brom and Southampton respectively.

Striker Nick Chadwick has been added to the squad today, but Simpson has warned supporters not to expect any budget-busting deals in the rest of the window.

“There is a wage cap you have to stick to, and you only have to look at Morecambe, who are under a transfer embargo because they are up to their limit,” he said.

“You always have to be careful and make sure you are balancing your books.

“I don’t do the accounting side, but I’m sure someone would tell me if we were in danger of going over our limit.”
