Skipper Ben’s eager to stay at Shrewsbury

Ben Davies today shrugged off speculation over his Shrewsbury Town future, declaring: “This club matches my ambitions.”
On the eve of his visit of his former club Chester City, Davies insisted he was keen to extend his stay beyond the end of the season.
The 27-year-old is out of contract at the end of the this term, and there has been speculation amongst supporters that a move in January is on the cards.
But Davies has played down those suggestions.
“I have heard all the rumours and I will be happy when January has ended and I can settle down and talk about my new contract here,” said Davies.
“I just want to play football and get back to scoring goals again.I’m happy here and I’m captain here so I don’t want to move away.”I’m just getting my head down and working hard and hopefully the rest will follow.
“I see the club as matching my ambitions in going forward. The next step up is a division higher and we can do that together with Town.
“Hopefully we can get it sorted out and all the speculation of leaving and going here and there can end.”
Davies is hoping to force away back into the starting line-up against his former club.
The midfielder, who had a hernia operation in November, was dropped to the bench for last week’s goalless draw at Bradford in a tactical reshuffle.
“It was disappointing because all I want to do is play football but the gaffer wanted to change it and put five solid across midfield and it worked,” he added.
“It I just have to get my head down and keep working. Up until the last two or three weeks, I was still finding the groin a bit sore striking balls.
“But slowly it’s getting better and hopefully I’m not far off full working order again.”
