PO talks result in failure

Friday 9th January 2009, 9:15AM GMT.

A Shrewsbury community was dealt a blow today when talks over a deal to reopen a post office ended in failure.People in Castlefields were hopeful their post office would reopen at a nearby site after it closed on September 4 when its interim sub-postmaster decided that he could not continue with the business.

Talks have been ongoing between Post Office Ltd and a retailer but it emerged today that they have now broken down.

County councillor for Castlefields, Alan Mosley, said it was another “sad blow” for residents.

Councillor Mosley said: “Recently Post Office Ltd has been involved in negotiations and discussions with a local retailer with a view to moving the facility to their premises.

“This is another sad blow to local residents who are greatly missing the facilities of the post office.”

Post Office managers, local councillors and the MP for Shrewsbury, Daniel Kawczynski, have all been fighting to get Castlefields Post Office reopened.
