Meredith has Bucks Wembley dream

Full-back James Meredith has extended his stay at AFC Telford United – and promptly set his sights on a trip to Wembley and a league title.
The first of those aims comes to the fore tomorrow, when Hayes & Yeading are the visitors in a second round FA Trophy tie.
The young Australian, who has been on loan from Shrewsbury for the last three months, is sure to be involved and is eager to help bring success to the club.
It promises to be a keenly-contested fixture with Hayes & Yeading, a club created by a merger in May 2007, in play-off contention in Blue Square South.
“I know the manager’s very keen on the FA Trophy and it would be brilliant to go all the way,” said Meredith.
“You don’t get to play at Wembley too often and a lot of players will never get the chance in their whole career, so it would be amazing.
“I’m just going to do my best in every game and we’ll see where we can go. I’d love to win the league – that has to come first for us.”
The deal to extend Meredith’s loan for the rest of the season proved to be a protracted affair, and the player himself admits he was unsure whether it would go through or not.
“At first there were other clubs interested and I didn’t know which way I was going,” he said.
“Then there was a a bit of awkwardness with Shrewsbury over the terms of the loan, but I’m pleased it’s all been sorted out.
“I had to weigh up my options and work out the benefits I would have got from each one.
“I didn’t want to go to another League club just to be a squad player – I’ve been getting regular football here and that’s something I haven’t had since I signed my first professional contract.”
Boss Rob Smith has already indicated he would like Meredith to stay beyond the end of the season and would be prepared to offer permanent terms.
The former Derby youngster is not thinking that far ahead though, insisting he has not considered his future beyond the summer.
“I’m not thinking any further than the end of the season – I’m just going to concentrate on it game-to-game,” he added.
“I do like it at Telford, it’s a good standard and a better club than most in this league – if not all.”
