Ludlow hit the plastic

Friday 9th January 2009, 10:00AM GMT.

Ludlow Town write a new page of club history tomorrow – as they prepare to host their first ever fixture on an artificial playing surface. The south Shropshire side were due to travel to Bewdley in the Sport Italia West Midlands League premier division but the fixture has been reversed because of the state of the Worcestershire side’s pitch.

Ludlow’s reserves are already at home on the grass pitch at the SBS Stadium, so the senior side will instead make use of the state-of-the-art astroturf which was installed in the summer.

“It will be our first ever competitive game on the astroturf,” said boss Chris Richards.

“Bewdley are quite happy to come and play on it. They’re a good footballing side so the surface might assist them. It will be tough, but we are improving.”
