Fears for missing man
Thursday 8th January 2009, 11:50AM GMT.
Fears are growing for the whereabouts of a man who has disappeared in Shropshire.
Alan Jones, 43, has not been since shortly before 8pm yesterday.
He left an address in Ifton Fields, St Martin’s, and was due to meet a family member at Stan’s supermarket nearby.
He was seen leaving the property but went behind the supermarket and disappeared. His family has not seen or heard from him since.
He was reported to police as missing a short time later and a search was launched.
Searches have been carried out in the St Martin’s area and also around Mr Jones’ home address in Penley, near Ellesmere, involving officers from both West Mercia and North Wales forces.
Inspector John O’Leary, who is overseeing the search, said it was out of character for Mr Jones to disappear like this.
“Mr Jones has never gone missing before and it is very unusual for him not to be in any contact with his family for so long,” he said.
“There is real concern for his welfare and I would ask anyone who might have seen him or have any information which could help police trace Mr Jones to please get in touch on 0300 333 3000 immediately.
“Officers searched through the night until the early hours and continue to do so today. The helicopter from North Wales Police has also carried out searches in the area he was last seen.”
Mr Jones is described as white, about 5ft 11in and of proportionate build. He was clean shaven and has short, mousy brown hair. He was last seen wearing black trousers, black shoes, a brown suede jacket and possibly a
dark polo jersey.
