Death fire police get extra time

George BlackPolice have been given extra time to question three people arrested in connection with the murder of a south Shropshire man.

Two women and a man were arrested in the Leominster area early yesterday by officers investigating the death of George Black, 41, of The Square in Bucknell. 

One of the women is in custody at Telford on suspicion of murder and attempting to pervert the course of justice.   

The other two people are being detained at Leominster police station on suspicion of attempting to pervert the course of justice and assisting an offender. 

Deputy senior investigating officer, Inspector Mick Homden, said all three had had their detention time extended for 12 hours to enable questioning to continue today. 

Mr Black died in Whiston Hospital in Liverpool on December 10, two days after an alleged arson attack at his home. Sylvia Smith, who was also in the house at the time, received treatment for burns. 

Two men are charged with Mr Black’s murder.
