Alan Gow has been backed to make a difference to title-chasing Wolves if his move goes through.
Rangers and Wolves have agreed a fee of £250,000 for the 26-year-old striker with Blackpool and Leeds also in the hunt.
Wolves, who have identified several possible targets this
month, remain in talks with Gow, who is expected to decide his future
in the next few days.
But Blackpool captain and former Wolves defender Rob Edwards insists Gow would add to their promotion-chasing team.
“If Alan goes to Wolves, it will be a great move for both the club and ‘Gowey’ as well,” said Edwards.
“I think there’s a few clubs after him and rightly so. I
totally understand it if a bigger club going for promotion comes in for
him.
“He’s got a really good left foot and he’s a real crowd
pleaser with a good football brain and he scores goals as well. He did
very, very well for us – he’s a top footballer and a top lad.
“It just shows that if you do well for someone, other
clubs quickly take an interest in you. When he played for us, he did
really well up front and he gets in good areas. He’s one of those
players who seems to create space and makes something happen and he did
that for us on numerous occasions.
“He also created goals as well. He’d be an asset for anyone in this league.”
Edwards added: “He’s different to anything Wolves have.
I’m not saying he’s any worse or better than, say, Andy Keogh because I
know how good the Wolves lads are, but he’ll definitely bring something
different to the table.”
After Chelsea refused to allow Michael Mancienne back out
on loan, Wolves have been linked with centre-half Mikele Leigertwood,
along with Bolton and Sheffield United.
Defender Matt Hill believes Wolves have a “good chance”
to progress in the FA Cup this season after being drawn against
Middlesbrough – if they can overcome Birmingham.
Yesterday’s fourth round draw paired the winners of Blues
and Wolves with a home tie against Boro on the weekend of January 24-25.
Wolves first have to negotiate their Championship rivals on a re-arranged date of Tuesday, January 13 (7.45pm).
