Former police officer’s new business

Monday 5th January 2009, 4:00PM GMT.

Kath Griffin, a former Shropshire police officer, has launched a new business working with dogs after completing the WiRE Opening Doors business start-up programme.

The same programme will be running throughout November at Evans Easy Space, Battlefield, Shrewsbury.

Kath, from Lee Brockhurst, started up Shropshire Therapeutic Canine Massage, which provides therapeutic massage services for dogs of all ages, shapes and sizes, from companion dogs to ones that compete in shows, agility, obedience or working trials.

Any dog can benefit from this therapy, which works to complement care already provided by vets.

Kath said: “If you have had a massage yourself then you know how good it makes you feel. Massage helps the body to mobilise its resources and to heal itself following injury or surgery. It can help to ease pain and speed up the healing process in tight or damaged muscles, and what works for humans works for dogs too.

“Massage therapy can help young dogs to develop their muscles correctly and keep the older dog supple and able to move with ease and comfort.”

Kath has achieved a Diploma in Canine Massage which involved more than 500 hours of studying canine anatomy and physiology, as well as massage techniques. She added: “I only work with the consent of the dog’s vet and my aim is always to improve the quality of life for your canine companion.”
