Expansion to follow move to town

An electrical repair company has given Telford a big vote of confidence after relocating to the town from the Birmingham area.

Control Electrics, which specialises in repairing controllers on electric vehicles, already has its sights set on expansion after moving into new premises at Horton Court, on the Hortonwood trading estate.

Owner Shane Edwards said: “Location is very important for our business, and we felt Telford was ideal for our needs.

“Not only does it have good local and national road links, but Telford gives the image that our company is looking for, and portrays the impression that our customers expect.

“Telford is a modern town which has the image of prosperity and high social standards. The industrial units are separated from domestic accommodation on modern, well-maintained industrial estates.”

Shane said the company, which has been running for 16 years, looked at several other towns, including Walsall and Wolverhampton, before deciding Telford was the better option.

“The young population and good education facilities offer a good recruitment base for future employees – and we hope it will not be long before we are creating more jobs for local people.”

He said the company was also keen to support the local economy by sourcing any of its materials in the Telford area wherever possible.

During their search for a suitable property, Control Electrics took advice from Transforming Telford, the economic development organisation for the area, which suggested several options, before the company decided to choose Horton Court.

The organisation also provided important data on the town’s economy, and helped to negotiate a 50 per cent reduction in rental charges for the first three months on the chosen property.

Inward investment co-ordinator at Transforming Telford, Bryn Jones, said: “We are always keen to support an ambitious and go-ahead company such as Control Electrics, which has appreciated the competitive advantages Telford has over bigger cities such as Birmingham.

“Once the company’s Telford site is firmly established and trading, I know it will be keen to engage with the local business community, particularly the Business Environmental Support Scheme for Telford.”
