Officers arrested the man, who is in his 30s, at the scene shortly after being called to the property in Little Minsterley, just after 3am on Thursday.

There had been reports of an assault and that a woman had collapsed.

Sharn Jones, 46, of Minsterley, was taken to hospital by ambulance but pronounced dead a short time later.

The man was initially arrested on suspicion of assault and then later arrested on suspicion of murder following Ms Jones’s death.

Officers were granted an extension to continue questioning him yesterday.

He was later released on police bail, while investigations into the incident continue.

Today Ms Jones’s best friend Bev Cartwight paid tribute to her “fun-loving” nature.

Ms Cartwright, who lives in Minsterley, said they had been best friends for nearly 20 years.

She said Sharn was mother to Rowena, Charlotte, 22, and Martin, who turned 21 on December 30.

Ms Cartwright said: “Sharn is the heart of the village. It is a hole we will never fill.”

Ms Cartwright added: “Martin is angry, upset and confused. He was 21 on December 30 and now he has no mum.”

Detective Inspector Gavin Kinrade, of Shrewsbury CID, said anyone with information about the incident is urged to get in touch on 0300 333 3000.
