Holiday home plans ‘go against’ policies

Plans for two new holiday lets in a village near Shrewsbury look set to be turned down by planners – despite them winning support from local residents.
Four letters have been sent in to council planners in Shrewsbury and Atcham backing the outline bid to create the holiday lets and a separate two-storey detached property on land to the west of the Fox Inn at Ryton.
Locals say they support the proposals because they believe trade at the pub would be improved and the development would enhance a site which is currently neglected and too small for livestock.
And they say the development would provide work for the construction industry and ongoing employment to satisfy the business shortage in the area.
But Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council’s planning officers say the proposals go against planning policy and should be refused when the authority’s development control committee considers the application at a meeting on Tuesday.A report says the outline application is for a two-storey detached property and two single-storey semi-detached holiday lets, including access and layout.
An access route onto the village lane would be improved with a replanted hedgerow.
The applicant would live in the proposed home and manage the two holiday-lets.
The holiday lets would also be completed with full disabled access.
However, in a report to councillors, officers say the proposal is contrary to the borough’s local policies.
The report to Tuesday’s meeting concludes: “The proposal for the erection of a two-storey residential dwelling and two single-storey holiday cottages is contrary to planning policy in that the site does not wholly lie within an HS4 settlement.
“The new buildings are not located close to existing buildings not are existing buildings being reused.”
