Sophie to end her blog
Friday 26th December 2008, 6:00PM GMT.
A Shropshire youngster who is known around the world for writing an online diary about her struggle with leukaemia will stop writing her blog now she has completed her last chemotherapy session.
Sophie Foxley, of Bicton Heath, Shrewsbury, used her blog when she was first diagnosed with cancer in 2006 to come to terms with her disease, to keep people updated about her condition and keep in touch with friends and well-wishers.
Now she has finished her chemotherapy treatment and only needs blood tests every month, she says it will be too boring for people to read about her life at school.
But the bubbly 10-year-old said if anything important happened – such as a trip to Florida which is planned for 2010, she will update the blog as and when – and there may be some photos from over the Christmas period.
Now Sophie, who has missed about a year of school, is too busy with all her other activities. She has three guitars, plays table tennis and squash and goes swimming.
She said: “I have been learning the guitar for about three-and-a-bit years and I have three – an acoustic, the electric acoustic and an electric. I maybe would like to be in a band. I just like it.”
Sophie said she was enjoying getting out and about and carrying on with activities she had to give up when she became poorly.
“This year has been a bit easier compared to the others. I have been able to go to school a lot. I think it’s really good because it was over a year off and I got quite bored,” she said.
Sophie said she had mixed feelings about finishing her blog, which still gets around 30,000 hits a week.
“When I’m back to normal, it’s just boring and people might get bored reading it,” she said.
“In a way, I’m quite fond of the blog.”.
Sophie’s mother Jane Foxley said she wanted to thank all the charities and people who had helped the family out since her daughter became sick.
