Witchcraft fears after pony attack
Tuesday 23rd December 2008, 1:49AM GMT.
A Mid Wales horse lover is living in fear of repeat attacks after three of her animals had their tails hacked off.
Lily Ellis, 66, of Llanfair Caereinion, said she had been left distraught by the attacks on her miniature horses, which grow to about 34 inches tall.

The attacks on the horses, which normally are kept in a field beside Mrs Ellis’s house, has prompted the animal lover to warn others of the danger.
She said: “This has left me so distressed. I have six miniature horses and they are so tame and beautiful. Whoever did it must know what they are doing because they are clean cuts and there were no injuries caused but now they don’t have their tails and they looked so beautiful.
“I think it is sick, whoever did this. I was so distressed, absolutely distraught to think somebody could be so cruel.”
The attacks happened between 3.30pm on Thursday and 8am on Friday.
Mrs Ellis has stabled her horses to try to keep them safe. “But I am worried if somebody did this they will come back,” she said. “I can hardly sleep at night with worry.
“My son read on the internet that police in Scotland have been looking at similar attacks up there. He said it is thought it may be people involved in witchcraft doing it as a part of some ancient ritual.”
Dyfed-Powys Police is investigating the attacks.

from looking at the pics, there tails seem to be there still. No pain was brought to them, and there tails are there, seems to me a waste of time and money bringing this story to us.

well i think i’m going to live in the Dyfed-Powys Police Force area as they must be doing a great job keeping crime low if they have the resources to “investigate” these “attacks”.

Witchcraft? I doubt it – mindless animal cruelty more like.
But if it makes an otherwise dull story look more exciting, you can bet the Star will leap on it.
Are you absolutely sure visiting UFOs weren’t responsible?

As a practicing Witch, I’m not aware of any “ancient ritual” involving horse tail hair. Any dull and uninteresting story can be made more exciting by including the words “Witch” or “Witchcraft”. Especially when combined with the word “fear”.
Here’s a headline for you: “Christian fears after manger scene erected.”
With the downturn in the economy, it’s probably someone gathering supplies for some sort of crafting project. A horsehair rope springs to mind. Another thought is, as mentioned before, mindless animal cruelty, or some sort of prank or dare.
Blame the Witch. They’re dark and mysterious, and we’ve been taught for years that they’re in league with the Devil! A convenient boogeyman to stir things up.
It might even increase sales at a small, struggling newspaper…hmm…

Ummm, it’s hair…it’ll grow back. Granted, I wouldn’t want someone coming onto my property for any reason uninvited, but witchcraft??? I highly doubt it. It sounds more like a teenage prank. Doesn’t anyone have anything better to do than report about pony hair cuts?

We don’t know what nuts are doing these attacks on horses. That being the case then why are we having Witches blamed for it as there is no history of Witches attacking horses or any other animal. Why stir up anger, violence, and fear at an innocent group just because the police have not been successful in finding the people responsible.
I am discouraged that this newspaper would take part in spreading rumor and slander against people who have nothing to do with these attacks, Lets stick the the facts of the attack and be honest enough to admit we don’t know who is doing it.

What a strange tail!

Not likely. I’ve been a Witch for nearly 40 years, and I have never heard of *any* magical or ritual use for horses’ tail hair. This was not an attack, just theft of something valuable that was left standing in a field.
A nice, thick horse tail would sell for approximately $600 US, for use in violin bows etc.

I think it must be a bunch of deranged Christians! Why jump to the conclusion that it is anything to do with Witchcraft?

Its probably a prank done by teenagers more than anything, a challenge they placed on each other, like toilet papering a tree or the other nonsense they do.

Oh yes, let’s blame everything of things we don’t understand.
Witchcraft? Please. Let’s find a new scapegoat already. This one was all used up centuries ago.

Upon closer inspection of the pics, I think its my hairdresser getting some practice in!
Dana: I have three horses, two have very thick tail hair, can you tell me were I can sell them?

You can’t blame it on witchcraft with no evidence. I find this story very offensive, I’m not a witch but i don’t think it’s right to blame anyone for a crime without evidence.

I know several Witches have already commented on here but I would like to add yet again that as a practicing Witch I can assure this lady that we do not nor have we ever had any desire to harm an animal. I wish her son had “investigated” Witches a little and this wouldn’t have been an issue. Hell They can contact me if need be and I will be happy to talk to them and explain, ask the paper for my email addy Lily. Why can’t people just ask a local Witch before making accusations?

I am a witch and it does seem convenient to blame some other source when the police can’t do it’s job. And there are no witches I know of that would ever harm an animal…these animals were NOT harmed. Not to mention. Look at the condition of the pasture the horses are housed in, I think whomever cut the tail hair did the horses a favor in keeping their tails out of the mud….
