Where have our goals gone?

Three games without scoring a goal and we are now starting to lose at home, writes our Shrews Blogger James Pugh. Are Town fans going to have a miserable Christmas and New Year?
The game against Wycombe was one we couldn’t afford to lose as it has extended their lead over us and to get promoted you need to beat the teams around you.
It may be early days, but that defeat might have wrote off our chances of winning the league.
Despite the result, it was a decent performance and showed that there is not a lot between the two sides. But to be fair to Wycombe, you can see why they are top of the league and have conceded so few goals.
You don’t always need to win by three or four goals – as long as you have a solid defence, one is often enough.
More worrying for Town is that we have not scored a goal in the last three games, and when Holt is not scoring, no one else has been stepping up recently.
I wonder if Simpson is thinking of getting another goalscorer in January which seems a strange thing to say when we have scored so many goals this season, but we mustn’t rely too heavily on Holt.
For me Walker has been a disappointment this season. I have often questioned his work rate and thought he would have got more goals. I just hope he stays injury-free and has a better second half of the season. White is a player I like and hopes he gets more starts because he offers us something different and that is pace.
The disappointment of Saturday followed our exit in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy against Brighton. I thought we more than matched our League One opponents and in the end we were undone by the cruelty of penalties.
With all the talk about Holt before the game and how he was top scorer in the competition, when he stepped up to take his penalty, it was written for him to be the one that missed. What is it managers usual say? – at least we can concentrate on the league!
The defeat to Wycombe has meant the upcoming games against Bury and Rochdale are even more important, so come on lads let’s give the fans something to cheer this Christmas and New Year. We can’t afford to slip-up anymore, especially at home.
