Residents to have their say on education
Monday 22nd December 2008, 6:59PM GMT.
Residents in Oswestry have been reassured they will get the same opportunity as everyone else in Shropshire to comment on how education should be provided in the county.
Meetings are being held throughout the county by an independent policy commission about the future of Shropshire’s primary schools.
Each meeting starts at 2pm with a session for people invited by the commission to discuss their submissions in more detail. An open public forum then takes place from 6pm to 8pm.
However, because of venue and availability problems, it was initially planned for the meeting in Oswestry to be held between 10am and noon on January 14 at Morda Village Hall.
At a meeting of Maesbury Community Group, members voiced their anger that people in the Oswestry area were only going to get a two-hour slot to discuss the future of schools when other towns in Shropshire were going to get a full afternoon and evening.
Vice-chairman Margaret Jones said after the meeting: “People in Oswestry should get the same as everyone else in Shropshire.
“A two-hour slot is nowhere long enough for people to have a fair say in what is a really important subject.”
Policy commission bosses today said the plan for Oswestry had been changed.
The meeting will take place on January 26 at the Oswestry campus of the Walford and North Shropshire College, in the same way as the other meetings.
