Town’s away troubles continue

Town’s away troubles continue against struggling Grimsby – leaving fans puzzling to explain why.
The 1-0 defeat to Grimsby, who have won only one match all season, was an awful result for Town and yet again it leaves me asking how can we pick up so many points at home compared to on the road.
We had chances and our failure to take them has cost us, but thankfully we were yet again saved by other results going our way, leaving us still well-placed in the league.
It’s been a funny season. We are third in the table, but still I feel disappointed and frustrated that this season we have lost to teams like Port Vale, Morecambe and now Grimsby.
I’m at a loss to explain why and only hope that in the second half of the season our away form will quickly improve.
We can’t afford to keep relying on picking up points at home, and sooner or later we will have a bad patch at the Prostar where we will struggle to pick up points.
I feel we need to be more positive away from home and go at teams from the kick-off.
The fixtures over Christmas are probably the most important during the season, determining which way teams are going.
Games against Wycombe and Bury will have a big say on our season and will show how good we really are.
Gilks kept his place in the Town goal on Saturday, ahead of the fit again Daniels.
Simpson has got a tough call to make on who should be his number one.
Since coming in to the side Gilks hasn’t let us down and should keep his place. With the goalkeeping problems we have had over the last couple of seasons, it’s a nice dilemma to have.
Congratulations must go to Grant Holt who won November’s League Two Player of the Month.
He has been a revelation since joining us – not only for his goals, but also for his work ethic.
If it wasn’t from him I am not sure we would be as high as third and despite carrying the pressure of his high price tag, it’s looking like money very well spent. Keep up the good work Holt!
With the disappointment of Saturday behind us we look forward to the next instalment of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy – home to struggling League One side Brighton.
I hope Simpson plays his strongest side and goes all out for victory. Wembley is just three games away!
