Many changes in a short time

It has been quite some time since my last blog, so inevitably much has changed in the online video world – or has it?
Although we are regularly battered with catchphrases such as ‘RSS’, vlogging and even user-generate multi-platform content, the basics stay the same.
Quality must always be the bar by which we judge online videos.
The internet is full of badly-made films that satisfy a desire for blood, guts, and, occasionally, comedy.
Over the last six months, however, I have come the realise that people will usually be happy to follow quality work.
Take our coverage of Telford Tigers, for example.
Last season, we were very much finding our feet and I did not always feel that the videos were top-notch.
That showed in our user figures, which always lagged behind those of Shrewsbury Town and AFC Telford.
But this season, the quality of the product is much higher, with a commentator and from this week, the use of two camera angles.
We have put a lot of time into looking at what people go for – indeed, although we have focused on the classic bloody and guts fights, we have followed that up with analysis from an expert and post-match interviews.
And the result?
User figures have sky-rocketed to such an extent that Telford Tigers far outstrip both of Shropshire’s main football teams in terms of video plays.
Much of this, of course, is down to us making use of the tools at our disposal.
We have also started spreading the word via message boards across the internet – a tool which by its very nature is not available to the written edition of the Shopshire Star.
A little bit of care, therefore, goes a long way – especially if you want your videos to stand out from the Youtube crowd.
