This week’s pictures from the past

The Regal Cinema, Market Drayton, in about 1960

This is the Regal Cinema, Market Drayton, and according to the posters the film showing was Operation Petticoat with Cary Grant and Tony Curtis.

As that film dates from 1959, this photo was probably taken that year or the year after.

The cinema opened as the Hippodrome in 1927 and closed in 1966. It retains the name today – it is now a pub called The Hippodrome, which opened almost exactly a year ago.

I remember the coronation in 1953………in other words H.R.H. was not yet queen and therefore, not a reigning monarch.

However, nice photo and thanks for sharing it.
