Study clears town power plant

Thursday 11th December 2008, 3:53PM GMT.

An updated study which again clears Ironbridge Power Station of causing deaths and ill-health in the south Telford area, has been endorsed by borough NHS chiefs.

The report, containing the most recently available data on health patterns, was presented yesterday by director of public health, Dr Catherine Woodward, to the Telford & Wrekin Primary Care Trust board.

The updated report follows her original study which dismissed claims that emissions from the power plant were responsible for major health problems in local residents.

Dr Woodward, who released her findings in 2006, had investigated patient data for a 10-year period from four “at risk” electoral wards – Ironbridge Gorge, Woodside, Madeley and Dawley Magna.
