Team Hales eye assault on festival

Wednesday 10th December 2008, 11:34AM GMT.

Shropshire biggest racehorse owners are plotting a fresh Cheltenham Festival raid after Noland claimed a major success in Ireland.

The seven-year-old, owned by Cosford businessman John Hales, won the John Durkan Memorial Chase at Punchestown yesterday.

He edged out The Listener, with former Gold Cup winner War Of Attrition back in third.

And connections are now eyeing an assault on the Rynair Chase at next year’s Festival, a race for which Noland is now 4-1 favourite after yesterday’s performance.”

“We were all absolutely thrilled and it was a really good performance,” said Lisa Hales, whose parents John and Pat were in Ireland for the race.

“There was some consideration given to going to the King George at Kempton on Boxing Day but Paul (Nicholls, trainer) felt it was a year too early for him.

“The plan is to have one run at Ascot and then go to the Ryanair.”
