Town put pressure on leaders

Town 1 Rotherham 0It wasn’t pretty, but Town did enough against nine men Rotherham to keep hot on the heels of the League Two leaders, writes blogger James Pugh.

A 1-0 win against a team who had two men sent off doesn’t seem to be a great result on paper, but Town should be credited for showing patience against team who came to make things difficult.

A win’s a win and the three points were crucial, especially as the leaders Wycombe lost for the first time this season.

It was very disappointing to hear some fans boo the team during the match and they should feel ashamed of themselves because how is that going to help the team?

Some news that shocked me recently was that of Tierney going on loan to Colchester with a view to a permanent move.

I can understand him wanting to play at a higher level and he is certainly good enough, but the fact is we have a chance of getting promoted this season, while Colchester are struggling in League One and could go down.

Whatever the reasons for him going and it could well be because he wants more money, I would like to take this chance to thank him for what he’s done for the club.

He has made left-back his own and has been one of the most consistent players we have had for a long time.

His work ethic was fantastic and he was always one of the first players to applaud the fans at the beginning and end of each game.

If he has played his last game for the club, then I wish him good luck.

Despite his departure, I think we have plenty of cover in that position, with the likes of Ashton and Sheriff more than able to perform well there.

Another player who has left the club is Guy Madjo.

I think it’s fair to say he won’t be missed and his departure will enable us to sign better players in January.

He had the chance to go out on loan and refused and obviously didn’t do enough on the training ground to warrant Simpson keeping him.

It seems strange that not so long ago he was being talked about for the Cameroon squad.

The news that Humphreys is going to be out for a while is also a blow as he was getting a good run in the first team and was starting to be more consistent, but it is up to him to force his way back into the first team and get back to playing well.

As Christmas approaches, things overall are looking very good.

We play a lot of games during this period of the season and things can quickly change, but if we keep digging out results and start picking up more wins away from home, promotion will surely be ours.

I agree totally with the comments about the jeering crows. What a disgrace!!. These so called know-it-all supporters need to understand that no team will lie down and die just because we have a good home record and its obvious that teams visiting will make it difficult. Instead of negative comments lets get behind Paul and the players. Just a comment about Marc Tierney. I hope his decision to move to Colchester was HIS and not an agent on his behalf. Players have the right to do what they want to do and not just because the agent says so. Good Luck Marc for the future.
