Sowdon closes in

Shropshire teenager Robbie Sowdon is one fight away from becoming a national boxing champion.
Telford-based Sowdon, who boxes for Shrewsbury Amateur Boxing Club, defeated Newcastle’s Paul Gidney in the semi-finals of the ABA Novice Championships at Liverpool yesterday. Sowdon ran out a 10-6 points winner, with a strong second round proving the key to victory.
And he will now travel to Nottingham next week for the final of the under-54kgs section next Sunday where he will meet either Victor Jennings of Lynn ABC or Crawley’s Daryl Barber.
