Fears grow for missing woman
Thursday 4th December 2008, 12:29PM GMT.
A massive search operation was under way today as fears grew for a Shropshire woman who has been missing for three days in freezing temperatures.
The North Wales Mountain Rescue Team has joined specially trained police officers with dogs and the police helicopter in trying to track down Sheila Kane who has disappeared from her Broseley home.
The Severn Area Rescue Association has also been searching the River Severn and other water sources for the 57-year-old.
Concern is growing for Mrs Kane who has not been seen since about 9.20pm on Monday when she left her home in Ironbridge Road.
She was reported missing just after 9am on Tuesday prompting the extensive search to be launched.
It is believed Mrs Kane was wearing a set of green check pyjamas and a pair of brown “huggy” boots when she was last seen. She may also be wearing a khaki green coat. She is described as being about 5ft 6ins tall, of slim build and with short, grey hair.
Inspector Stephen Fitzpatrick, from West Mercia Constabulary, today urged Mrs Kane to get in touch with either the police or her family and let them know she was alright.
Mr Fitzpatrick said her disappearance was totally out of character and, with temperatures being so low in recent days, there was genuine concern for her welfare.
“Mrs Kane has not been very well recently and is not believed to have taken her medication with her,” he said. “Her family is very worried about her, as it is completely out of character for her to disappear like this and not to get in touch.
“Many people in the area might know her by her maiden name of Sheila Carter. If you have seen this lady, please get in touch on 0300 333 3000.”
