Surgery expansion is facing rejection

Wednesday 3rd December 2008, 6:59PM GMT.

Plans to expand a Newport GP practice look likely to be thrown out because patients’ cars would cause traffic chaos for nearby residents.

Telford & Wrekin Council’s plans board deferred a decision last month to give officers time to look at possible solutions to parking problems at the cramped site.

But officers say the Wellington Road surgery, which serves 13,500 patients, has effectively outgrown its plot.

The application, which would involve the loss of two existing parking spaces, will go before the board again next Wednesday, once more recommended for refusal.
