Seizure warning for red diesel users

Wednesday 3rd December 2008, 11:17AM GMT.

People in part of Shropshire are being warned their vehicles could be seized if they are found to be running illegally on red diesel.

The warning was made by police following the launch of a joint operation with Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs.

They are running Operation Jerry following an increase in the number of thefts of fuel in the area as the recession bites.

First phase of the crackdown led to a number of spot checks being carried out across the south of the county. Officers seized three vehicles and their owners were issued with £500 fines for illegally using the fuel.
