Details of a new summer music festival to replace Oswestry Music Live will be unveiled to town councillors tonight.

The festival will include a performance from Radio 2 presenter Mark Radcliffe’s folk band, it has been revealed.

The two-day event will be staged on July 3 and 4 at locations throughout the town, a report from town council bosses says.

Plans include performances by various local bands and solo artists on a rotational basis on stages at Festival Square, Coney Green, Bailey Street and Bailey Head.

The highlight of next year’s event will be an appearance by Mark Radcliffe’s band The Family Mahone at the Marches School on the evening of July 4.

The report added: “The main purpose of this festival is to provide the people of Oswestry with live music entertainment, giving local musicians a forum from which to perform and also to encourage visitors to come into the town in order to shop.

“Along with musical entertainment, it is hoped that street entertainers will be in attendance in the form of jugglers, unicyclists and the like.

“In the new year public houses will be contacted in order to request they assist the council in making the weekend successful by continuing the musical theme in their premises.”

The summer festival will replace day-long Oswestry Music Live which was held in annually in Cae Glas Park for nine years.

Councillors agreed to scrap Oswestry Music Live and replace it with the summer festival at a meeting in October.

The councillors took the decision after saying they felt it had lost its “picnic in the park” atmosphere.
