Griffiths at helm for Pool

New boss Huw Griffiths is relishing his first managerial challenge as he looks to revive Technogroup Welshpool’s wobbling Welsh Premier fortunes.

The former defender officially took charge at Maesydre over the weekend along with his assistant Roger Preece following the sacking of Tommi Morgan three weeks ago.

Griffiths is a former assistant boss at Bangor City, Southport and Chester City, having made 90 Welsh Premier appearances as a player for Cefn Druids and Bangor.

And he is ready to get his teeth into the Pool job along with former Newtown boss Preece, the ex-Wrexham, Shrewsbury and Telford midfielder who was more recently assistant at Connah’s Quay.

“It’s my first job as a manager, and it’s an exciting challenge which I’m looking forward to,” said Griffiths who is working towards his pro coaching licence.

“One of the reasons I took this job was that I have worked with some of the players here, and I believe there is a lot of potential in the team.”

Griffiths and Preece take over after witnessing last weekend’s 7-1 hammering at Rhyl and general manager Graham Breeze is backing the pair to make their mark.

“Huw and Roger are both very good coaches, and will make a strong combination,” he said.
