Go-ahead for pub to stay open
Monday 1st December 2008, 11:17AM GMT.
An Oswestry pub was today given the go-ahead by licensing bosses to continue operating.
Members of Oswestry Borough Council’s licensing sub-committee met today to discuss the future of the Boar’s Head pub in Willow Street.
The meeting had been called after police alleged bar staff had served drunken customers and had sold alcohol to under-age youngsters.
Police also said there had been incidents of overcrowding, assault and drunken and disorderly behaviour at the pub.
The police had requested a review of the licence at a meeting in October, but the matter was adjourned when then-licensee Pat Thomas announced she was leaving the pub.
Sub-committee members heard today the police request had now been withdrawn following a change in management at the pub.
Councillor Peter Cherrington, sub-committee chairman, said: “Licensing regulations are being fully complied with at the premises. We welcome the the new licensee to Oswestry and hope they continue to comply with all these licensing regulations.”
After October meeting, Miss Thomas said her decision to leave the pub she had run for 20 years was nothing to do with the allegations but was due to less trade and high overheads.
