Coach Rod loses job

Saturday 29th November 2008, 11:09AM GMT.

Rod Jones has left his job as coach to Shropshire County Cricket Club.

Chairman Bryan Foulkes confirmed the decision was taken because of the effects of the current economic downturn.

“It was purely and simply about finance,” he said. Like everybody else at the moment, we are having to tighten our belts. Rod was disappointed and I understand that.”

Jones spent one year in the role.

I would find it hard to believe that this has come from the lack of funding for shropshire cricket when you see what the county spend the money on instead. surely this is just one more thing being taken away from the players so that money can be spent else where, I for one will miss rod around the ground and his hard work of trying to get the players to play the game in a more profesional manner. I know some senior players felt it boring and too much like hard work to listen to rod and think they had done it all before but it was good to have a person who helped the players there on hand.

Thank you for all your hard work rod…. you will be missed… shim

I agree with Adam. I have watched Shropshire Cricket for many years and as soon as they start looking professional the old brigade get worried about losing their positions. I assume with money so tight that the 1 day squad wont be full of paid players in 2009 then…..? yeah right

Another poor decision from the Shropshire Cricket Board! Its guys like Rod that see the aptitude in youngsters around the county, giving Shropshire the crop of young talent it has today.
All the best for the future Rod from Stew Black and Wellington C C
