It’s Star Woman time again

One of Britain’s most successful entrepreneurs and founder of a multi-million pound lingerie company was in Shropshire today to pay tribute to some of the county’s most remarkable women.Michelle Mone, the founder and co-owner of MJM International Ltd, called into the Shropshire Star’s headquarters at Telford before taking her place as guest speaker at the Star Woman of the Year Awards at the Albrighton Hall Hotel near Shrewsbury.

Eight women from across the county were invited as guests of honour at the Shropshire Star’s annual awards ceremony. This year they included the youngest ever finalist, 14-year-old Sarah Thomas, from Shrewsbury

Michelle, 36, is herself an inspiration to women. She grew up in Glasgow leaving school aged 15 with no qualifications to help look after her family and holding down three part-time jobs. After climbing the ladder in the business world she started her lingerie empire 12 years ago with husband Michael. The international business is best known for its Ultimo bra, worn by many top celebrities.

The Star woman finalists were Sarah, Annette McDonald, from Telford, Julie Thomas, of Shrewsbury, Daphne Jones and Joan Grant, from Bishop’s Castle, Pam Becke of Bridgnorth, Thelma Hall of Bayston Hill and Val Fisher of Baschurch.
