Town won’t appeal Walker red card

Shrewsbury Town will not be appealing against Richard Walker’s controversial sending-off at Lincoln – because of a lack of video evidence.
Walker was controversially given his marching orders by Oxfordshire referee Graham Scott just three minutes in to Saturday’s trip to Lincoln for what the official perceived as an elbow on Imps defender Daniel Hone.

There had been hopes that video evidence would clear the on-loan forward, but those were today dashed by manager Paul Simpson.
“We’re not going to be able to do anything about Richard Walker’s sending off,” confirmed Simpson.
“Peter Jackson (Lincoln manager) said he thought it wasn’t an elbow and that he was just trying to shake the lad off.
“But the only video of the game didn’t pick the incident up so we are just going to have to get on with it.”
Walker will now serve a three match suspension starting with tomorrow night’s visit of Dagenham & Redbridge, leaving Dave Hibbert and another loanee Jamie White as the leading contenders in the battle to partner Grant Holt in attack.
Meanwhile, Simpson has praised his side for extending their unbeaten run to five matches, despite being reduced to 10 men so quickly.
“I think it was an absolutely magnificent point,” said the Town boss .
“After going down to 10 men so early in the game, we knew it was going to be a tough scrap and I’m absolutely delighted with the way we have gone about it.
“I’m not trying to cop out but I honestly didn’t see the actual incident (for the sending off).
“The people who did see it tell me it wasn’t an elbow but I can’t pass judgement.
“What I will say is that Walks isn’t that type of character at all.
“But I thought once that happened we dug in and the players defended for their lives. We had chances and could have gone ahead with a bit more belief when we got in there and given them a real problem.
“But in the circumstances it was a very, very good point. ”

I would have thought that even if there is no video evidence, if the two managers agree there wasn’t malice the officials could take their word into consideration instead. Maybe even Daniel Hone could stand up for Richard Walker?
