Strength is Wolves key

Monday 24th November 2008, 12:14PM GMT.

Mick McCarthyWolves boss Mick McCarthy has hailed the strength of his squad after their 2-0 Championship win over Blackpool at Molineux.

It was his side’s sixth win in a row and maintained their six point gap at the top of the table over Midlands rivals Birmingham.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are also now ten points clear of third-place Reading after Steve Coppell’s men suffered a surprise 2-1 home defeat by Southampton.

Former Shrewsbury Town midfielder Dave Edwards made a rare start in place of suspended skipper Karl Henry after being restricted to substitute appearances in recent weeks.

McCarthy said: “Dave Edwards was excellent, particularly in the first 45 when he was dominating.”
