An elderly woman was taken to hospital with burns after a chip pan caught fire at her Telford home this afternoon.

She was hurt when the blaze started in her kitchen in Courtland Drive, Trench, shortly after 1pm.

The woman, who is in her 70s, tried to tackle the fire and suffered burns to her hands and hair. Fire crews from Telford Central and Wellington were called.

They had to remove a ring from a finger on the woman’s injured hand.

She was taken to Telford’s Princess Royal Hospital while firefighters ventilated the semi-detached property and removed debris.
