Festive frivolity takes to the rails

The Severn Valley Railway’s Christmas carol trains will start next month.

The Bridgnorth to Kidderminster line has for many years laid on these trains in which passengers, led by a choir, stop at stations along the 16-mile route, to sing traditional Christmas songs.

This year’s trains run on the evenings of December 13 and 20, making a return trip from Kidderminster.

Scores of people are expected for the start of the singing at 6.30pm at Kidderminster station on both days. The railway’s heritage diesel unit will stop at Arley and Hampton Loade for further rounds. The train arrives back at Kidderminster at 10.15pm.

SVR marketing manager John Leach said: “There’s a wonderful atmosphere and spirit of camaraderie among the passengers who take part.

“Anyone who’s a little bit disenchanted about Christmas really should come along.”

Seats can be booked with the SVR’s Bewdley offices on (01299) 403816.
