One of Ellesmere’s busiest streets could be narrowed to make way for shopper-friendly footpaths under proposals tabled by Shropshire County Council.

The authority is encouraging residents to have their say at an exhibition of the proposals to amend Trimpley Street in Ellesmere. 

The exhibition will take place on Wednesday at Elles-mere Town Hall between 2pm and 8pm when county council officers, along with designers Mouchel, will be on hand to discuss the proposed amendments. 

There has been a long-standing conflict between pedestrians and vehicles in the area and the council has worked with partners for a number of years to develop a solution. 

Residents and motorists who use the area will be asked for their opinion on the proposals.

In order to provide wider footpaths on Trimpley Street the road will be narrowed and a priority system introduced. Work is programmed to commence in January subject to agreement on the proposals. 

John Everall, Shropshire County Council’s Cabinet member for environment and sustainability, said: “We encourage people to come along to this exhibition and ask officers questions on the proposals. 

“It is important that we know what local people think of the proposals as they know what the local issues are.” 

Ann Hartley, Shropshire County Councillor for Ellesmere, added: “I am delighted that after a long campaign we are able to consider these proposals to amend Trimpley Street. 

“I hope that residents will come along to this exhibition and have their say.”
