It’s a genuine, bona fide crisis!

John Sergeant, who left Strictly Come Dancing last week (picture courtesy of PA Wire)Well, it’s official. It is a genuine, bona fide crisis.

There have been questions asked in Parliament. Radio and TV phone-ins and newspaper message boards have been inundated with comments from worried households across the country.

How will they cope?

If you think I’m talking about the recession, shame on you. That’s not the big news story this week.

A little fat man leaving a prime-time dancing show. Now that’s real news.

You could accuse me of hypocrisy, because I am now, of course, making mileage out of it too.

But flipping heck!

A couple of weeks ago I was writing about the Ross/Brand debacle. Now another BBC entertainment row has stolen the headlines from the slowdown in the global economy, the situation in the Congo and the tragedy of Baby P.

I hope to god nobody leaves I’m A Celebrity… under a cloud at the same time as a major story breaks, otherwise news editors up and down the country will have heck of a time on their hands.

So, John Sergeant has left Strictly Come Dancing because he wanted somebody who had actually learned to dance to win it. So what? Who cares. He’s gone.

Get over it. Move on and start caring about things that really matter.

And anyway, from the news today, it looks like Rossy is gonna get his job back after the BBC Trust decided all that needed to be done had been on the whole Andrew Sachs affair.

So if the Beeb need someone to take Mr Sergeant’s place, Jonathan is now available again.

Just so long as they don’t team him up with Georgina Baillie…
