Town will light up tonight
Wednesday 19th November 2008, 11:45AM GMT.
The streets of Shrewsbury town centre will light up tonight as late-night shopping starts with an evening of entertainment.
The county town’s Christmas lights will be switched on by stars of this year’s pantomime, Robin Hood.
The event is part of a partnership between traders and Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council and will mark the first formal late-night shopping evening.
The Severn radio station will join members of the cast of this year’s Music Hall pantomime.
The event will start in The Square at 5.30pm with the all-important countdown to the switch-on starting just before 6.30pm.
To stage the event safely, there will be three road closures from 5pm to 7pm – Wyle Cop into town, High Street, from the junction of Wyle Cop, and Princess Street.
The festive spirit will also continue with the Carols in the Square event on December 17.
