Former Shrewsbury Town goalkeeper Joe Hart will miss England’s friendly with Germany in Berlin on Wednesday after limping off during Manchester City’s 2-2 draw with Hull at the KC Stadium.

Hart was injured as Daniel Cousin opened the scoring for the home side and missed the rest of the game as Stephen Ireland scored twice for the visitors and former Eastlands star Geovanni earned a draw with a deflected free-kick which beat Hart’s replacement Kasper Schmeichel. 

City manager Mark Hughes confirmed 21-year-old Hart, who signed for City from Shrewsbury in the summer of 2006 for a fee eventually likely to rise to £1.5m, would be out for three to four weeks, causing him to miss the England game. 

Hart, one of three keepers named by national boss Fabio Capello yesterday, limped from the pitch after sustaining an ankle injury trying to prevent Hull’s opener. 

He had been played into trouble by a back pass from Tal Ben-Haim and could not prevent Cousin slotting home. 

Hughes believes Hart will be out for around a month. 

Hughes said: “He’ll have to be seen by our medical people when he gets back but he’s likely to be out for a minimum of three to four weeks. 

“He’s obviously out of the England squad, which is a blow to him, but most importantly it’s a blow to us because we have some key games coming up. 

“He’s gone over on his ankle initially trying to stop the goal and the lad (Cousin) has actually fallen on his leg as he went over on his ankle. It’s compromised him greatly, and it will definitely be three or four weeks I think.” 

Blackburn goalkeeper Paul Robinson has been called into the England squad for Wednesday’s friendly with Germany. 

Capello has also lost Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand from the squad and Steven Gerrard is a major doubt.
