Pair praised for flats fire rescue
Saturday 15th November 2008, 10:40AM GMT.
Firefighters have praised the actions of two men who led occupants to safety after an arson attack at flats in Oswestry.
Adam Edwards, 23, and Christopher Morris, 22, both plumbers from Oswestry, have been hailed as “heroes” after they entered a smoke-logged hallway to escort the residents, many of them elderly, to safety.
Firefighters were called to the scene at Windridge Court, on Llwyn Road, at about 1.45am yesterday, where two wheelie bins had been deliberately placed at opposite ends of the hallway.
Leading firefigter Robin Evans, of Oswestry Fire Station, said: “They are heroes. These two lads were quick-thinking.”
The pair had been on their way home from a night out when they spotted the fire.
Mr Edwards said: “We just thought we better get people out so ran in and did what we did.”
