Collapse of sewer sees road closed
Saturday 15th November 2008, 1:55PM GMT.
A Telford road was closed and was expected to be sealed off until at least Monday after a gaping hole appeared when a sewer collapsed.
Haybridge Road in Hadley was closed after the hole appeared yesterday and Severn Trent workmen were at the scene today trying to repair the damage.
Severn Trent spokeswoman Gill Dickinson said part of the road surface had fallen in when a sewer collapsed.
She added: “The emergency services and bus operators have been advised of the situation and diversions are in operation.
“We think the repair work is likely to take at least three days and want to apologise to residents and people using the road for any inconvenience caused.”
Hadley Parish Council member Malcolm Wickstead runs a butcher’s shop in Haybridge Road, near to the scene of the collapse.
Councillor Wickstead was not available for comment.
But a staff member said: “The road is closed a bit further up from us but it is opposite the Cross Keys.
“Trade has been very slow today and that may have something to do with it. Saturday is normally our busiest day.”
