Visitors can tour county mansion
Saturday 8th November 2008, 10:30AM GMT.
An historic mansion near Shrewsbury has been “put to bed” for the winter but visitors can still join special tours to see how restoration is carried out.
Every weekend in November, Attingham Re-discovered tours will take place at noon and 2pm at the National Trust property.
They give visitors the chance to take a tour of Attingham Hall to witness the progress of a long-term programme of development and restoration.
Visitors can discover how the house is being brought to life and take a look at previously closed rooms and spaces, as well as see the house team’s work on conserving and restoring Attingham.
Highlights include the restoration of the original 1780s surfaces of the painted panels in the boudoir, the revival of the faded Sultana Room, the re-presentation of the extravagance of the dining room lit for an evening banquet and the on-going recreation of the second Lord Berwick’s Regency decoration in the Octagon Room.
Catherine Turnbull, house and visitor services manager, said: “We are continuing to welcome visitors throughout the winter months to the mansion at Attingham.
“The weekend tours are a fantastic way of finding out how the ongoing restoration is progressing. The tours highlight some of the major improvements.”
The tours cost £2 per person and will run every Saturday and Sunday until November 30.
