Sylvan’s focus is on team success
Friday 7th November 2008, 1:15PM GMT.
We’re in this together – that is the message from Wolves hotshot Sylvan Ebanks-Blake as his looks to continue on the goalscoring trail against Burnley tomorrow.
The Wolves frontman has already bagged 10 goals in all competitions this season but insists he is more interested in reaching the Premiership than personal triumph.
He said: “It would be nice to get close to last season’s tally (23 personal goals) but the team is more important than any individual accolade.
“It’s been a good season for us so far. We’re top of the league and I’ve scored a few goals and we’ve been playing some good football.
“It’s hard to put a finger on whether there is any difference to the side from last season except maybe there’s a confidence now.
‘‘We just have to keep it going and see where it takes us.”
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy is boosted by the news that defender Matt Hill is nearing a return to first team action after coming through 90 minutes in a behind closed doors friendly against Birmingham.
Tomorrow’s match comes too soon for the left-back and Wolves look certain to stick with the same back-line that proved so hard to break down in the 2-1 win in Cardiff last time out.
Chelsea loanee Michael Mancienne made his full debut for the club and was a pillar of strength at centreback.
There is no such joy for Burnley manager Owen Coyle, who is desperately hoping that no more of his players fall victim to a virus sweeping through the team.
Clarets right back Micheal Duff missed their victory over Norwich last weekend will illness, and though he has now recovered, the virus has now struck central defender Clarke Carlise, Dutch midfield man Remco Van der Schaaf and young striker Alex MacDonald.
Coyle has called on his players to pull off a repeat of the 3-2 victory last season.
