See Rolf singing with the Fron Choir

Thursday 6th November 2008, 11:30AM GMT.

The promotional video to accompany a new single recorded by TV legend Rolf Harris and a choir from the Shropshire border has been released – and Shropshire Star readers can be among the first to get a look at it above.

The Aussie singer and presenter teamed up with the Fron Male Voice Choir to record a new version of his 1960s’ hit Two Little Boys in an Oswestry recording studio in the summer.

The single was recorded to coincide with the 90th anniversary of the end of World War One.

Rolf, 78, travelled to Ypres in Belgium to record a BBC documentary, A Family at War, to retrace the steps of his father, Cromwell, and his uncle Carl.

Originally from Wales, the two brothers had gone to Australia to seek their fortune and joined the Australian army.

Rolf was in Wales last month when he and members of the Fron Male Voice Choir attended the press launch of the project at the White Waters Hotel in Llangollen.

As well as the Two Little Boys single, the choir is releasing its third album, Voices of the Valley Home, and its debut DVD, Voices of the Valley Live, this month.

Members, many of whom come from the Oswestry area, hope the new version of Two Little Boys can repeat the original’s success. It was the Christmas number one of 1969 and best-selling single of the year.

    Welsh and proud

Now surely at a time when we MUST remember all of those who have fallen in the name of freedom this is a great gesture and to a worthy cause. When we walk the streets at this time I am surprised to see the youngsters wearing their poppies with pride. We never went to the two great wars with a view to take over the world, we just wanted to stop others who felt they should be rulers of all.

Thanks Rolf for the great gesture and if we think of the others who fell and their comrades who did not leave them dying perhaps this song may be more poynant than we thing.

Best wishes and thanks to all who fight and for those who fell for the name of freedom for us all.
