Otis Ferry ‘a political prisoner’, says MP

Thursday 6th November 2008, 8:00PM GMT.

Otis FerryRock star’s son Otis Ferry is being held as a political prisoner, Shrewsbury MP Daniel Kawczynski claimed today.

He said he had now written to the head of the Crown Prosecution Service demanding the countryside campaigner, of Eaton Mascott, near Shrewsbury, be bailed to await his next court appearance.

The 25-year-old son of Roxy Music singer Bryan Ferry has been on remand in Gloucester jail since September 18 on charges of perverting the course of justice. He may have waited a total of more than five months by the time his case goes to trial.

Mr Kawczynski today said he believed the joint huntmaster of the South Shropshire Hunt was being punished for storming the House of Commons in protest at the hunting Bill in 2004.

The Tory MP said: “I have received a letter from Otis Ferry in prison and I am absolutely convinced he is being kept as a political prisoner. Because he tweaked the Government’s whiskers by invading the House of Commons and managed to get on the main floor I am concerned that they are putting political pressure on the CPS to keep him in prison.

Daniel Kawczynski MP“I am in the process of going to Gloucester Prison and I am going to be speaking to him later today. I have also been on the phone to the governor of the prison and I am writing to the head of the CPS in London and in Gloucester.”

He said Mr Ferry would miss the opening of the South Shropshire hunt this weekend and would also be in prison on his birthday.
