A man in his late teens has been arrested on suspicion of concealment of a birth and bailed. A woman is receiving medical treatment.

Police began searching The Linney and surrounding areas yesterday after being alerted just after 7am. Detective Inspector Ian Rouse, of Shrewsbury CID, said detectives were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident. The coroner has been informed.

People in Ludlow’s pubs last night said they had been aware of police activity. One regular in The Queens said he had noticed a forensic investigation van outside the town’s police station.

He said: “It was very unusual because I have never seen it there before.”

Residents of the The Linney were shocked to hear of the inquiry. One, who asked not to be named, said: “I did see two policemen walking past in the afternoon. It sou- nds very disturbing. There are plenty of places around The Linney if you wanted to do something like that.

“There is lots of land behind the houses and past the rugby club and there is also St Leonard’s churchyard up the other way which is overgrown and quiet.”
