Tributes to kart tragedy mum
Wednesday 5th November 2008, 11:50AM GMT.
Floral tributes were today being laid at the spot where a Llanfyllin woman suffered fatal head injuries in a go-kart crash.
Jackie Green, a mother-of-three, suffered serious head injuries after she lost control of the go-kart and crashed into a bollard close to her home in Ffordd Y Cain. Friends said the go-kart flipped over and Jackie hit her head on a fence. She was rushed to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
However, she could not be saved following the accident which happened on Friday at about 10pm.
More than a dozen bouquets of flowers had today been left at the scene, as well as three notes, all in children’s handwriting.
One poignant message, signed Bye from Laura, included a drawing of flowers in a vase. It read: “You have been so kind to us and we will always remember you.
“We are so sorry. Accidents do happen. Sometimes they are little, sometimes they are big. You had a big accident.”
Another tribute, signed Jodie, said: “Jackie, you were nice, lovely and kind. You did everything for me. Thank you.”
Residents said the town was reeling from shock. Amanda Mantell, a local hairdresser, said: “It is terrible and everyone has been talking about it. Jackie came into the shop to have her hair done a few times and she was a nice woman.”
Another resident said: “My son went to school with her and I know her fairly well. A lot of people knew her in the area and everyone is stunned. The whole community is in shock.”
Jackie leaves her partner Rafal Arcicihowski, sons Sam, 15, and 14-year-old Gavin, and seven-year-old daughter, Libby.
Police are investigating the collision and officers today renewed an appeal for witnesses to come forward.
